A while ago we set out to find the how, what, why about the 2014 F1 Turbo exhaust manifolds, which lead to a comparison between exhaust manifold designs. Log-type versus equal length, to be specific.
The tools used
Obviously we weren’t able to get our hands on the actual items, but we were able to approximate dimensions based on photographs and reference measurements. These measurements allowed us to setup an approximation of the different manifold designs in a 1D simulation (AVL Boost) powertrain base model, by Tom Kempynck (Cranfield University Alumnus)
